About Smart Dollar Guide
Money shouldn’t be confusing. Smart Dollar Guide explains credit, loans, credit cards, taxes, saving and crypto in plain language — in English and Español — so you can make confident decisions without the jargon.
Who we are
Smart Dollar Guide is an independent, bilingual personal finance project. It was born from a simple observation: many people — especially those who arrive in a new country — have to make big money decisions (getting a first credit card, filing a first tax return, comparing loans) with information that is confusing, scattered or only available in one language.
We use digital tools, including AI, to help research and draft our guides. Every guide is built on official sources, which we cite and link to, so you can always check the facts yourself.
We write for everyday people in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom — including Spanish speakers who are navigating a new financial system — who want clear, practical answers.
How we write our articles
- We use official sources. We rely on government agencies and regulators such as the IRS, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, HMRC and the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and we link to them.
- We update regularly. Rates and rules change, so we review our guides and show the date they were last updated.
- We’re independent. Advertising and affiliate partnerships keep the site free, but they never decide what we recommend.
- We correct mistakes. If something is wrong, tell us and we’ll fix it.
